The Loyola News

The Loyola News is a student organization that presents school news and other topics of interest in print, video and audio formats.

Commencement Exercises

June 23 - The 121st Commencement Exercises were held on June 22, 2017. One hundred and thirty-five students received their Loyola diplomas. The guest speaker was Mr. Robert Shaughnessy (Class of 1961) and the valedictorian was Michael Murphy (pictured below). Nine students graduated with First Honours and eighty-four students graduated with Second Honours. Pictures of convocation are available here.


Closing Mass

May 31 - After Loyola annual closing mass, student council co-presidents Michael Murphy and Will Matthews presented the Fondation Haïti Partage with a cheque for over $17,000 on behalf of students from Loyola and our sister schools. Next, the new Maroon and White were invested and, lastly, three staff members were honoured, including Naz Ruscito (retiring), Marc de Verteuil (twenty-five years of service) and Bob Shaughnessy (retiring). They are pictured below, from left to right.

SSX competition winners

May 31 - Congratulations to Champion Chicken and General's Orders who are co-recipients of the 2017 Entrepreneurs of the Year.


Arts Festival champions Loyola students’ creative talents

May 13 - The Arts Festival wrapped up last Thursday with an art battle in the atrium during lunch and then the Ignatian Awards soirée that featured student films, a Loyola Drama presentation, musical numbers and the presentation of awards recognizing those students who have contributed significantly to the arts at Loyola. Pictures of a wide variety of events from the Loyola Arts Festival are now available on our SmugMug site.









Art Battle

May 13 - Last Thursday, seven students and three teachers challenged each other to complete a painting in twenty minutes. Congratulations to all ten artists, but especially the three winners: Gabriel Giangi in first place, Craig Sky in second and Rocco Santaguida placed third.


Volume XIV, Issue III of The Loyola News available April 11

April 11 - Volume XIV, Issue III of The Loyola News is available today in the cafeteria. The twenty-page edition covers numerous topics, including a special section on adolescent health, the new music program, various editorials, hockey news and much more. A full colour PDF version is also available for reading.
