The Loyola News is a student organization that presents school news and other topics of interest in print, video and audio formats.

Athletic awards dinner

May 19 - The annual athletic awards dinner took place last night at Loyola and the most distinguished athlete was Will Matthews who was awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy for his involvement in the sports program throughout his high school career. Summer dress

May 18 - Please note the following for Summer Dress: While dress pants must be worn, students are allowed to take off their tie or replace their dress shirt with a Loyola Polo. No other polo is permitted. Dress Shirts and Loyola Polos must be tucked into dress pants (top button can be undone). No cotton pants are permitted. All other aspects of the school dress code (hair, facial hair...) are still in full effect. Please remember summer dress is a privilege which will be revoked from those violating the dress code. Arts Festival champions Loyola students’ creative talents

May 13 - The Arts Festival wrapped up last Thursday with an art battle in the atrium during lunch and then the Ignatian Awards soirée that featured student films, a Loyola Drama presentation, musical numbers and the presentation of awards recognizing those students who have contributed significantly to the arts at Loyola. Art Battle

May 13 - Last Thursday, seven students and three teachers challenged each other to complete a painting in twenty minutes. Congratulations to all ten artists, but especially the three winners: Gabriel Giangi in first place, Craig Sky in second and Rocco Santaguida placed third.


Sam Roberts kicked off a week of Arts Festival events on May 8

May 9 - As part of the Arts Festival on Monday, the VACC Lecture Series welcomed Loyola alumnus and singer-songwriter Sam Roberts to the atrium during the lunch period. Mr. Roberts answered questions from the audience pertaining to his music career and the influence of the arts in his life. The event was well attended and Mr. Roberts graciously responded to the questions with well thought out responses and insight. Pictures of the event are available here.


Co-presidents-elect choose new members for student council

May 5 - Co-presidents-elect Tommy Lane and Gavin Delaney have chosen the new members of the student council for 2017-18. Along with the official opposition, there were seven positions in need of filling. Please click here for the names of the new student council members.




Spring Concert

May 5 - Students in the music program performed at this year’s Spring Concert on May 5 in the Father Eric MacLean Center for the Performing Arts. The music was varied in style and featured the Choir, recorder and band classes, the Concert Band, the Jazz Band and the sax and brass ensembles. A large and very appreciative crowd was entertained by our young, aspiring musicians on their very special evening. Pictures of the event are now available on our SmugMug site.


SSX wraps up

April 29 - The Student Stock Exchange competition wrapped up last Friday after three offerings to the public. The 16 companies would like to thank the Loyola staff, faculty, alumni, family, friends and especially the students for their support during the busy two day sale. The teams are now in the process of preparing their financial statements. Shareholders will receive their dividends the week of May 22. Reviews of the companies and their products will be featured in the upcoming issue of The Loyola News.


Volume XIV, Issue III of The Loyola News available April 11

April 11 - Volume XIV, Issue III of The Loyola News is available today in the cafeteria. The twenty-page edition covers numerous topics, including a special section on adolescent health, the new music program, various editorials, hockey news and much more. A full colour PDF version is also available for reading.
